Recognizing Women in Technology

Hi everyone...

Given the importance of technology in media -- and the outstanding contributions women are making in digital media -- we'd like to make sure to involve New Mexico's media industries as well in the NM Tech Council's Women in Technology event this November.

Thanks and best wishes,

Eric

I think all of us know some great women working in Technology, but for whatever reason women are under-represented in tech industries and job roles today. Moreover, the continued low rates of young women entering engineering and science programs in our schools means that this situation is not getting better. It may even get worse.

Our annual Women in Technology event is one key way the Tech Council tries to address this. By offering scholarships to women entering technology programs and highlighting the achievements of potential female role models, we hope to inspire our girls and young women with the possibility of going on to satisfying work in technology careers.  We're also glad to build awareness of the essential roles many women play in moving our technology community forward.

Of course, we need your help to do so. Please consider taking one or more of the following actions to recognize and continue to build the impact of Women in Technology here in New Mexico:

NOMINATE A STUDENT

We are currently accepting nominations for female students in their senior year attending a New Mexico High School with a deadline of October 15th. Nominees should be students who, through their educational and extra-curricular pursuits, display their intent to pursue an information technology oriented career. More information and the online nomination form is at:  https://nmtechcouncil.site-ym.com/?page=WITScholarship

NOMINATE AN HONOREE

Help us identify and recognize the exceptional women who are leading the way in New Mexico technology - and providing inspiration for not only our young women, but for the community as a whole.  Visit https://nmtechcouncil.site-ym.com/?page=3rdWIT to learn more and submit an online nomination.

PARTICIPATE IN OUR EVENT

Our 3rd Annual recognition ceremony will be held the morning of Thursday, November 4th at Albuquerque's Marriott Pyramid North, with breakfast and great speakers. We hope you can join us for this excellent event - and possibly consider having your company or organization purchase a table.  Registration information is available at: http://nmtechcouncil.site-ym.com/events/event_details.asp?id=114341

SUPPORT WOMEN IN TECHNOLOGY

The Tech Council is still looking for sponsorship and other support for scholarships, defraying the cost of the event - and making it happen in general. We can't do it without you.  If your business or organization can sponsor the event, please visit https://nmtechcouncil.site-ym.com/?page=WITSponsorship to sign up. We've also heard from several individuals who would like to help, but at a lower level.  Please contact me directly at eric@nmtechcouncil.org if you'd like to make an individual donation.  We also need help staffing the event and supporting the work of our event committee.  If you think you can provide some time - or have other thoughts on how you can help, please let me know.

Otherwise, you can also help by spreading the word. Please share this email with others you think might know worthy students or potential nominees, and link up with us on Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/nmtechcouncil) and twitter (http://www.twitter.com/nmtechcouncil) to spread the word there as well.

Thanks in the meantime, and we hope to see you at our Women in Technology event in November.
