Governor Bill Richardson Announces 2010 "NM Filmmakers Showcase" Call for Entries

Free Local Showcase Open to All New Mexicans, May 13-16

SANTA FE—Governor Bill Richardson today announced a Call for Entries for the 2010 NM Filmmakers Showcase in Albuquerque May 13-16 at the Guild Cinema.  The Showcase is an annual event featuring a vast range of creative talent of New Mexicans from around the state.  Last year over 70 local filmmakers had their work screened.  The Showcase is open and free to the public, with no cost to enter a film or attend the screenings.

"New Mexico does more than any other state to provide training, resources and promotion for local filmmakers," said Governor Richardson.  "The New Mexico Filmmakers Showcase is a great opportunity for New Mexican writers and directors to have their short or feature length film screened for the public.  It's always exciting to see the tremendous pool of exceptional local talent and high quality work that is submitted…and it gets better every year."

A panel of local film professionals will critique the films in various categories, and winning films will be traveled around the state by the NM Film Office.  Narrative, documentary, animated and experimental films all qualify for entry.

OPENING NIGHT:  Guests will also be able to meet the filmmakers at an opening night gathering at Laru/CafĂ© Cubano, located at 3413 Central Ave NE in Albuquerque, just down the street from the Guild.  This reception will be held on Thursday, May 13th from 6:00-7:00pm, with the kickoff films beginning shortly afterwards.

As the Guild has a limited number of screen time, film submissions will be accepted on a first come, first served basis.  Deadline for entries is Thursday, April 22nd at 5:00pm.  Entry forms will be available at the Guild Cinema box office and online at www.nmfilm.com.  For further information, contact the Guild at (505) 255-1848, or NM Filmmakers Program Director Trish Lopez at the NM Film Office: (505) 476-5600.
