Governor Bill Richardson Announces Inaugural Conference on Film Financing and Distribution for

New Mexico Filmmakers

Experts will discuss current trends and developments in financing and distributing small films

SANTA FE- Governor Bill Richardson today announced that the New Mexico Film Office will present a two-day conference designed to educate local filmmakers on how to obtain financing and distribution for small films.  The conference will take place Friday, June 11 and Saturday, June 12 at the National Hispanic Cultural Center in Albuquerque. It will feature panels and discussions led by experts and seasoned film industry professionals.  The events are free and open to the public, however because space is limited those wishing to attend must register in advance.

"The primary focus of our film program is to provide jobs, opportunity, and support for New Mexico filmmakers," said Governor Richardson.  "This conference will offer critical information and advice to those trying to find a way to make and distribute their small films.  It is one more way we are making the film industry work for New Mexicans."

Friday afternoon programs will run from 2:00 p.m. until 5 p.m. and will include panel discussions focused on "How to Maximize Your New Mexico Film Incentives."  These will be followed by discussions about the New Mexico film Loan Program, the Film Crew Advancement Program, and the wide variety of services offered through the New Mexico Filmmakers Program.

Saturday's sessions will run from 9:00 a.m. until 6 p.m. and will focus on topics like general film financing, creative financing for indie filmmakers, and new distribution platforms.  There will also be a session on pitching films.

"Understanding how to navigate the complicated world of film financing and distribution will better equip New Mexico filmmakers to find opportunities and compete on a local, national, and even global scale," said Lisa Strout, Director of the New Mexico Film Office.

Those wishing to attend must register in advance by phone or email, and must provide the following information:

·       Name and title (or area of interest, such as "producer" or "aspiring director"),

·       Phone number and email address, and

·       Days that you will be attending (Friday, Saturday, or both).

To register call (505) 476-5671 or email filmmakers.nm@gmail.com.

Flamenco School - Documentary Feature

From NM Filmmaker Brent Morris:

Dear friends,

I am nearing completion on my first documentary project.  It is screening in Albuquerque during the Festival Flamenco June 8 - 12, I'd be honored to have you as invited guests to any of the performances.

Screenings are at UNM's Keller Hall Tuesday June 8 at 6 pm, Thursday June 10 at 1:30 pm and Saturday June 12 at 4 pm.  In addition to our film, Chris Roybal's look at the Yjastros company, "Spanish Room" is also playing at Keller.  We both embarked on docs about the same time, he making a beautiful performance piece about the high-end professional company during the making of one of their shows, with myself and partner Reinhard Lorenz taking a look at the entire company, spending time with Eva, the youth groups and family over the course of a year of principal photography.

Admission: $7/$5 students.

Tickets available at the UNM Box Office, on the web at unmtickets.com, or by phone (505) 925-5858.

Flamenco School is a behind-the-scenes look at the institute and its founder, Eva Encinias Sandoval, who has created here what many consider the nation's premiere course in flamenco study.  Since meeting Eva last year, I've had a great learning experience making my first feature film as a director after many years on the production side.

Co-director Reinhard and I are hoping to gain some attention for the film and the institute, which has had to rely on corporate and private sponsors to maintain their annual festival after city and state funding's been cut this year.  Our film portrays some of that issue but mostly focuses on Eva's work with young performers and chronicles the history of the Encinias family, which encompasses five generations of flamenco artists in Albuquerque.  It's been quite a moving experience for me to participate in their story.

Thank you for your help in publicizing our film in any way.  Attached is our press release and one-sheet sales flier, as well as couple of stills from the film.  We're on the web at flamencoschoolfilm.com and on Facebook at flamenco school film.
