New Visions 2010 - Call for Submissions!

From the NM Filmmakers Program:

Greetings NM Filmmakers!

I am pleased to announce the call for submissions for our 5th annual New Visions/New Mexico Contract Awards.

The NM Filmmakers Program at the State Film Office provides this funding opportunity to independent filmmakers around the state through the support of Governor Richardson and the NM legislature.  This year, we will provide a total of $100,000 toward the projects of our winning local filmmakers.  Each applicant can apply for up to $20,000 for their original short, television or feature, animation, narrative, documentary or experimental project.  New Visions' funding can be used towards research and development, production or post production on your film.  In exchange for this funding, each winner must provide some type of professional service to the state as part of their contract (i.e. free training workshops, internships, presentations, lectures, filmmakers' screenings, etc.).  Once again, we'll be conducting free informational seminars on how to prepare your New Visions proposal, open to all New Mexicans, beginning this week.  All interested applicants are strongly encouraged to attend*:

Ignite is about _sharing your passion_ with a group, teaching people
something you're knowledgeable about, and having fun. Tell us how to
jailbreak an iPhone, where to find true love, or why to watch a rugby game.

Enlighten us, but make it quick. Ignite presentations follow a _very simple
format_...you have five minutes and 20 auto-advancing slides to inspire and
inform.

The next IgniteNM will be at the_ Santa Fe Complex_ on Wednesday, September
22nd, starting at 7pm, and we're looking for presenters.

If you'd like to speak at September's event, _submit your Ignite topic now_
at [2]User Voice where fellow Igniters express their preference by voting on
submissions. The deadline for topic submissions is Friday, September 10th
and chosen speakers will be notified by September 15th. We'll need a copy of
your slides (at least a draft of your deck of 20) by the 12th, but you don't
need them to submit a topic now.

Film Lincoln County NM Film Symposium THIS THURSDAY

Hi again...

Quick reminder that this Thursday is the Lincoln County Film Industry Symposium.  There have been a few adjustments to the schedule (including a panel on digital media at the end of the day with me, Rio Grande SIGGRAPH's Rachel Nicoll and the NM Post Alliance' Tor Kingdon).  Should be fun, interesting and productive -- so please spread the word!

Eric

Film Lincoln County NM is sponsoring a film industry symposium at the Spencer Theater in Alto New Mexico on August 26th from 10 am to 4 pm. The purpose of this symposium is to bring information about the film industry to the residence of Lincoln County, to expose local and regional politicians and legislators the degree of interest in the film industry that exists in Lincoln County, to provide film makers in Lincoln County an opportunity to meet one another, and to expose people in the film industry to Lincoln County and what it has to offer the film industry.

The mission of Film Lincoln County NM is to "promote Lincoln County as a film location, and to foster the art and education of film making in Lincoln County."  With a university located in Ruidoso, and that being one of the supercomputer gateways, and the Spencer Theater, plus the existing talent pool of people here, we have a great opportunity to grow the film and digital media industry from within the county.

NM Game Jam Returns, Expands Across State

NM Game Jam Returns, Expands Across State

The Rio Grande chapter of the International Game Developers Association (IGDA) is holding the second annual NM Game Jam from August 13th to August 15th, 2010.  This year, the Game Jam will expand beyond the borders of Albuquerque to include sites in Santa Fe and Las Cruces, allowing game developers from throughout the state to participate.

The NM Game Jam is a 48-hour game development challenge where teams create a playable game prototype based up on a given theme.   The event will begin on Friday, August 13th at 5:00 pm at all locations.  Teams will then have 48 hours to develop a game, before demonstrating their creation at their respective site on Sunday, August 15th at 5:00 pm.  All games will be featured on the NM Game Jam website, and awards presented to the teams that create the most compelling games, as selected by a panel of Rio Grande IGDA reviewers.

Initially inspired by the Global Game Jam, organizers for the Rio Grande IGDA created the NM Game Jam to help promote growing game development interest across the state.    It has since expanded to locations where local game development communities have flourished over the past few years.  Here are the site locations for each city participating in this year’s NM Game Jam

·         Albuquerque – The Arts Center Design College, 5000 Marble Ave NE (http://www.theartcenter.edu)
·         Las Cruces – Dona Ana Community College, 3400 South Espina St (http://dabcc-www.nmsu.edu)
·         Santa Fe – Santa Fe Complex, 624 Agua Fria St (http://sfcomplex.org)

If you are interested in participating, visit the NM Game Jam website (http://www.nmgamejam.org) to meet other participants and find out more information about  the jam at any particular site.  Direct further inquiries to Eric Renz-Whitmore (ewhitmore@gmail.com) or Jon Whetzel (jhwhetz@sandia.gov).
