Location: Santa Fe Center for Progress and Justice, 1420 Cerrillos Rd., Santa Fe (Next to the IATSE Local 480 film union office)

Time: 10am to 4pm (includes one-hour lunch break)

Summary: This lecture will review the skills needed for working in various job positions in the Set Decoration Department on film and television productions. The discussion will include how to move into the positions of Gangboss, On-Set Dresser and Leadperson. Learn department budgeting, familiarize yourself with the required paperwork, and develop your interaction with other departments. Whether you want to expand your knowledge of the position, you are in or move into another "Set-Dec" job, this seminar will give you insight into the bigger picture workings of this department.

Spring is in the air and everyone is busy as bees, but make sure not to miss out on the events we have in store for you this May.

 

Leopold Legacy Film Competition, Extended Deadline to May 13th

Amateur and professional filmmakers alike still have a chance to participate in the Leopold Legacy Film Competition. This is a great way to continue to celebrate earth day by highlighting our local environmental heroes. Winners will receive a cash prize and chance to show their film on the big screen. Categories include both youth and adult filmmakers. See the attached flyer for more information and visit the following website to upload your film at www.leopoldlegacyfilms.com.

 

Outdoor Screening of Green Fire: Aldo Leopold and a Land Ethic for Our Time preceded by the Leopold Legacy Film Competition Award Ceremony on May 20th from 7:30-10:00pm at the Gutierrez-Hubbell House

If you did not get the opportunity to see the world premier of Green Fire last February, don't miss this event. We will screen this inspiring film about Aldo Leopold's life outdoors, under the stars, at the Gutierrez-Hubbell House. We will start the evening by acknowledging the winners of the Legacy Film Competition and learning about our current day environmental heroes. This event is free and open to all. Backyard Farming Series: Living Gracefully with Insects on May 21st from 10:00am-2:00pm at the Gutierrez-Hubbell House

Discover how to attract beneficial insects with insectory plants and deter pests without using harsh chemicals. LAST CALL FOR ANIMATION SUBMISSIONS – MAY 6th
The 2011 NM Filmmakers Showcase is conducting a last call for animations to be included in our May 2011 Showcase.  Although animation submissions have always been accepted and one was submitted, our entry form did not list it as a category and therefore we are conducting a final call.  If you have an animation film to submit, please see attached entry form, write in ‘animation’ as your category and send your application packet to the Guild Cinema by Friday, May 6th.  It’s free to enter a film and free to attend any and all screenings.  Contact (505) 476-5611 with any questions and see the full Showcase details on www.nmfilm.com.  Our schedule of 2011 Showcase films will be released this week.  Join us for our opening night kickoff reception!  May 19th at 6:00pm, sponsored by Laru Ni Hati Café Cubano in Nob Hill.

“American Blowback: New Mexico’s Black Berets”

This seven-minute documentary in-progress by New Visions winner Federico Reade examines the Chicano civil rights movement as it unfolded in 1969.  “After many of New Mexico’s youth returned from the first National Chicano Youth Conference in Colorado, they were inspired to change inequities perceived in society, along with legions of other Chicano youth across the country.  They went on to find themselves at the vanguard of an awakened consciousness both locally and nationally, that would ultimately transform a nation.” Hosted by Federico Reade and Richard Moore with special guests:  Joaquin Lujan, Santiago Maestas, Father Luis Jaramillo, Marvin Garcia, Richard Sawtelle, Lucia Baca Lucero, all members of the Black Beret Organization.  For more information, call 301-0276 or 850-3842.
